G500 Powered by PW814GA Engines Makes European Debut
Pratt & Whitney Canada’s PW814GA engines have helped power Gulfstream Aerospace’s new G500 to another milestone, as the state-of-the-art aircraft made its first European flight last week. The G500, which has a range of 5,000 nautical miles, completed a non-stop journey across the Atlantic from Savannah, Georgia, to Farnborough, England, where it is now on display at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow.
The recent trans-Atlantic flight is the latest step toward certification of the G500, scheduled for 2017, to be followed by first delivery in 2018. The plane on display at the Farnborough International Airshow is the fourth aircraft in the G500 test fleet, which serves as the test bed for various systems including avionics and water ingestion.
Extensive Test Program
The fleet has accumulated over 300 flights and 1,280 flight hours so far, not to mention more than 50,000 hours of ground testing. Since the G500’s maiden flight in May 2015, the PW814GA has consistently exceeded expectations by delivering superior, dependable performance for the flight test program, including successful operation in extreme operating and environmental conditions.
The G500 program will be followed by the G600, which will have a range of 6,200 nautical miles and will be powered by twin PW815GA engines. The PW815GA received type certification from Transport Canada along with the PW814GA in February 2015.
